Nano-Materials and their Energy and Environmental Applications

主讲人 : WEI GAO

Tremendous effort has been made in the research of nanomaterials and nanotechnology. The author’s group has been conducting nano-research since 1993. This talk will briefly describe a few “hot topics” of materials research since 1970s, then introduce the research at the University of Auckland on light alloys, nanostructured coatings, transition  l oxides, and surface/interface nanostructures. A wide range of processes have been used to synthesise nanomaterials. Special physical and chemical properties have been obtained by microstructure and composition control. The emphasis now is put in their industrial applications including highly wear and corrosion resistant surfaces, solar energy harvest, light emission, bio-sensing, Raman signal enhancement, and environmental cleaning. 



主讲人简介:

Dr Wei Gao, Officer of New Zealand Merit, is a Professor of Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Auckland, Fellow of the Royal Society NZ and Fellow of Engineering NZ. Received his DPhil from Oxford University UK, he worked at MIT for 5 years as a Research Fellow and Lab Director. His active research covers Nanomaterials, Thin films and coatings, Electronic materials, Corrosion and oxidation, Light alloys, and Photocatalysis. He has 790 scientific publications including 470 SCI journal papers, and received a number of prestigious awards, including “Scott Medal”, “James Cook Award”, “Shorland Medal”, and “Distinguished Materials Scientist of China”.
