Heat Transfer in Energy Systems

主讲人 : Prof. Abdulmajeed A. Mohamad

Heat transfer is a critical factor affecting the performance of most thermal energy systems. Over the years, various techniques have been developed to improve heat transfer from industrial, medical, space, military, and other devices. These techniques primarily focus on increasing the heat-transfer area and promoting mixing and turbulence. Jet impingement, microchannels, and phase change, specifically heat pipes, offer the most effective heat transfer enhancement. Energy management in buildings is highly related to the heat exchange between indoors and outdoors. Any effort to control the heat transfer rate will certainly contribute to energy savings and, consequently, reduce pollution. Another area of research is to improve the combustor to reduce pollution. I highlight our efforts in this direction. A deep understanding of fluid dynamics and the mechanisms governing heat transfer is crucial for developing reliable heat transfer enhancement devices that offer high heat transfer capabilities while minimizing the pumping power requirements. This technical presentation highlights our efforts to understand heat transfer in a few applications.

主讲人简介:

Professor Abdulmajeed (Majeed) Mohamad is a Professor in the Dept. of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Calgary, Calgary, Canada. He graduated from Baghdad University with a BSc (Hons) and MSc in 1976 and 1978, respectively. He obtained a Ph.D. and postdoc from the School of Mechanical Engineering, Purdue University, W. Lafayette, USA. Dr. Mohamad’s research interests are on thermal system analysis, computational methods, Lattice Boltzmann Methods, natural and forced convection for laminar and turbulent flow, natural convection in liquid  ls, heat transfer enhancement, thermal solar energy, double-diffusive problems, combustion in porous media, radiative heat transfer, etc. He worked extensively on heat and mass transfer for electronic cooling systems, including jet impingement, liquid  l, and natural and forced convect. He simulated natural, turbulent convection for an inherited safe nuclear reactor. He also simulated the CO2 adsorption process in the zeolite column. Dr. Mohamad developed low NOx porous burners and a few industrial projects as a consultant. Professor Mohamad has been invited to many institutions worldwide as a lecturer, keynote speaker, and invited Professor. He is an associated editor of the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Journal of Heat Transfer. Also, the associated editor of Int. J. Energy Storage and Saving. He is on the editorial board of a few journals.
